Content on a blog is a way to get your name in front of a potential customer. Not to sell them your product, but to provide them with knowledge and information about a question they may have.

When users get in the habit of always coming to you to find their answers, eventually they will be in need your services. When this time arises, they will be more inclined to use your business because of the trust build from your content.

Creating content might seem like a lot of work, or it may feel like you don't have the time for it. Is the time it takes to create content worth it for your company? We’ve outlined 5 reasons on why a blog is important for your business.

1. Boosts SEO

We talked about the importance of Google rankings and how to find where your business ranks in our article, Where Does your Business Rank on Google.

It is important to see where you rank so you can work on improving your SEO. If you found your rankings weren't as high as you'd like them, try blogging.

A 434% better chance?! That's huge.

You blog can help boost your SEO by having content that is full of keywords. You want these keywords to be what your customers are searching for on Google.

If you have relevant, up to date information on keyword topics people will use when searching for your business, you can eventually get your business to the top of listings.

2. Builds Credibility

Having short, low quality content pieces just for the sake of having posts will not do much good. Although this is better than having none at all. You want your blog to have articles and videos that people will want to read and engage with. This builds trust and credibility for your business.

It is important to note that not everyone who looks at your blog will do business with you, and that’s okay. You don’t want the content on your blog to be pushing a sale. It is there to be a helpful resource for people, build your brand recognition, and boost your SEO.

3. Social Media Content

We mentioned in our post, Marketing Your Business on Facebook, how important it is to share relevant content with your followers on social media. If you are blogging, you are creating the perfect content to share on your social media.

According to Social Marketing Writing, social shares from Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter add the most credibility to blogs. And they will also bring more people to your site! Which brings us to our next reason:

4. Allows for Shares/Referrals

If you are writing relevant, awesome content, people will want to share it.

94% of people share blog content because they think it might be useful to other people. (Express Writers)

Key word: useful. Chances are the terms you know and the tasks you think are simple, are not as simple to someone who is not a locksmith. You want to create content that everyday people can understand and learn from.

Creating how to videos, or top 10 lists are two ideas of content pieces that are both simple and informative. People enjoy these types of articles and are more inclined to share them with their friends.

The cheapest way to advertise and get new people to your business is referrals. Try to get previous customers to share your content and refer your business.

5. It’s Free

Blogging costs nothing more than your time!

If you are willing to spend a little money, you can hire people who are more experienced in areas of SEO and blogging. This can be beneficial if you can't seem to find any time to create the content yourself.

Another cost benefit of blogging is less paid advertising. If your blog gets you to the top of the search rankings, and your posts are being shared, you can pay less for ads.

It’s important to remember, that like most things, blogging takes time and results will not happen overnight. But what better time to start than now?! Posting once a month is better than not posting at all, and the more you do it the easier it will get.
